Montgomeryshire woos the Senedd!
Local firms, business leaders and a Welshpool school take centre stage in Cardiff
Montgomeryshire took centre stage yesterday in the halls of Welsh power yesterday when our local Member of the Senedd hosted a memorable gathering of our producers, organisations, businesses and even a Welshpool primary school.
Russell George MS, alongside the Farmers’ Union of Wales, hosted Montgomeryshire Day at the Senedd to showcase all that is wonderful about our historic county.
The event celebrated the breadth of Montgomeryshire’s rural enterprise - from family farms and heritage wool to award-winning food and drink and unique tourism experiences - while giving businesses a platform to make new connections and share priorities for growth.
Exhibitors included the Farmers’ Union of Wales (FUW), Montgomery Young Farmers (YFC), British Wool Marketing Board, Graig Farm Organics, Vintage Land Rover Tours, Wild Welsh Wool, Get Jerky, Cambrian Training, Caws Gynog, Montgomery Waters, Radnor Preserves, Sun Gin, Bettws Hall, Monty’s Brewery, The Welsh High Street and Mid Wales Tourism.
Mr George MS said: “Montgomeryshire Day is about giving our local businesses and organisations a national platform. The quality, craft and innovation on show at the Senedd spoke for themselves - our area is one which punches well above its weight.
“From food and drink to wool, hospitality and outdoor experiences, these enterprises create jobs, sustain supply chains and keep our communities vibrant. I’m grateful to every exhibitor who travelled to Cardiff Bay and to colleagues who came to show their support.
“I want to say a massive thank you and well done to the children of Ysgol Gymraeg Y Trallwng for their spectacular performance, and also to the FUW for helping us to put on such a well-attended, successful event.
“My focus now is to keep championing Montgomeryshire - pushing for the skills, infrastructure and fair funding our rural economy needs, and making sure the Welsh Government hears what works on the ground.”
“It was a pleasure to see so many producers, rural businesses and community organisations come together to showcase the quality, innovation, and strong sense of community that define our area - and to highlight the vital role that agriculture continues to play in the wider rural economy.
“We were also delighted by the strong cross-party attendance from Members of the Senedd. A particular highlight was seeing the First Minister join pupils from Ysgol Gymraeg Y Trallwng on stage for a wonderful rendition of Calon Lân - a moment that perfectly captured the spirit of the day.”
