Welshpool Town Council has announced free car parking at Church Street Car Park on key shopping dates this winter to support local businesses and encourage residents and visitors to shop locally during the festive season.
For four consecutive Saturdays - November 29 (Winter Festival), December 6, December 13 and December 20 – shoppers can park for free for however long it takes with the aim of boosting town centre trade and making it easier for families and visitors to enjoy Welshpool’s festive events and attractions.
Welshpool already offers a wealth of free parking at its Tesco and Morrisons car parks, but with that limited in time, it is hoped this new move will prove popular.
Town Mayor, Cllr Phil Owen, said: “We’re delighted to offer free parking this Christmas period to help our residents and visitors shop local and enjoy everything Welshpool has to offer.
“Our Winter Festival on November 29 is always a highlight, and this initiative helps make the town even more welcoming and accessible at such a busy time of year.”
Voluntary donations are greatly appreciated to help us keep free parking available and support the town’s local economy. You can make a contribution online, or in person with cash donations at the Tourist Information Centre.
The decision to offer free parking was made at the Town Council’s October meeting.
