Hub’s role praised as donations roll in

The Welshpool Hub’s role in supporting the town’s community has been recognised by more donations that will keep the service running through the ongoing cold snap and beyond.

The Hub was set up in the Town Hall at the height of the cost of living crisis in 2021 to provide a warm space for residents to gather for company, entertainment and warm food.

It has become a hugely popular resource led by Cllr Nick Howells and supported by the Town Council and volunteers that is well used, and has continued on Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout the winter.

It relies on donations to survive, and over the Christmas week, Cllr Howells received a £250 donation from Invertek who also donated the money raised in their Christmas Jumper day collection which was a further £277.

Deputy Mayor Bill Rowell, Cllr Morag Bailey and Cllr Howells were invited to the company’s headquarters on the Buttington Industrial Estate for a guided tour on their Christmas jumper day, wearing their own Christmas jumpers of course!

Ads a further boost to the coffers, Guilsfield Bowling Club also donated £80.

“We really do live in a wonderful and generous community,” said Cllr Howells.

“These amazing, ongoing donations will allow us to continue providing the service hopefully for a long time to come.”
