Welshpool Town Council has received the resignation of Councillor Julie Arnold, who represented the Castle Ward.
Cllr Arnold only returned to the Town Council in December 2024 having previously resigned in the summer of 2023 due to other commitments.
However, she has handed in her resignation once again, stating that she had valued the opportunity to work with “some incredible individuals” and wished the Council and its staff well for the future. No reason was given for her departure.
“The Town Council would like to thank Councillor Arnold for her contribution and service to Welshpool and the Castle Ward, and wishes her well for the future,” the Town Counciol said in a statement.
As a result of the resignation, a casual vacancy has now arisen for the Castle Ward. In accordance with the appropriate regulations, an election will be held to fill the vacancy if, within 14 working days of the publication of the notice of vacancy, a request in writing for an election is made to the Deputy Returning Officer by ten registered electors for the Castle Ward.
Requests for an election must be sent by post to Deputy Returning Officer, Powys County Council, County Hall, Llandrindod Wells, Powys, LD1 5LG.
If no valid request is received within the required timescale, Welshpool Town Council will proceed to fill the vacancy by co-option.
