Welshpool Livestock Sales report on Sale at Buttington Cross, Welshpool on Monday.

OTMS (20)

An entry of 20 otm cows sold to a top of £1364 (176ppkg) for a 775kg Blonde otm cow from Ellis Lloyd & Co, Garthiaen. Younger cows topped at £1092.96 (138ppkg) for a 792kg British Blue from J R Phillips & Son, Bank Farm.  Heifers under 48 months topped at £1383.80 (187ppkg) from S B Owen & Co, Garreg, for a 740kg British Blue.  

Averages of the day were as follows:

OTM Cows (x11) 135.16ppkg / £926.68.

Cows 48-72 months (x5) 137.75ppkg / £819.29.

Heifers Under 48 months (x3) 171.11ppkg / £1242.83.

Otm Bull (x1) 122ppkg / £1337.12.

Overall Average 140ppkg.

PRIME CATTLE

An entry of 5 fat cattle sold to an overall average of 230.26ppkg. topping at 254ppkg for a 557kg British Blue heifer from S M Rowlands, Dolwen.  C J Davies & Son, Waengwyn, sold a 472kg Limousin heifer making 227ppkg.

PRIME HOGGETS (3560)

An entry of 3560 prime hogget’s sold to an improved overall average of 209.80ppkg.

Lights (274) to 214ppkg & 210ppkg from D E Morgan & Co, Cefntwlch. Others to 197ppkg from JE & SM Watkin & Son, Cefntwlch . Average of 184.52ppkg.

Standards (947) to 238ppkg from A Rees & Son, Tynllwyn. Others to 233ppkg from E W Jones, Tytanyfoel. Average of 206.72ppkg.

Mediums (1202) to 238ppkg from P A Lloyd & T S Wierzbinski, Cartref. Others to 234ppkg from A L Davies, Ty Brith. Average of 215.74ppkg

Heavies (938) to 239ppkg  from H M Powell & Son, Whitehouse. Others to 238ppkg from P A Lloyd & T S Wierzbinski. Average of 211.20ppkg   

Over Weights (142) to 217ppkg from JES Corfield, Woodgate Farm. Others to 209ppkg from H M Powell & Son, Whitehouse. Average of 194.31ppkg.

CULL SHEEP (1755)

An entry of 1755 culls saw averages of £49 for ewes and rams averaged £92. Ewes peaked at £125 and £121 from JS & A Howells, Shadog Farm. I P Jones, Bryn Clochydd, presented 3 ewes making £120. Rams topped at £112 from H B Tudor & Co, Tynberllan. A Rees & Son, Tynllwyn, presented rams making £109. Overall well meated ewes were in great demand.

STORE LAMBS

A small seasonal entry of 256 store lambs sold to  boyant trade for the mixed quality that was on offer. Theave lambs peaked at £68.50 for 8 Texel x with others to £62 and £60.50. mixed and clean lambs hit £78 for 6 Charollais x with Texel x to £66 and £65. Wether lambs sold to £56.50 and £50 for small pens of Texel x. Tup lambs sold well peaking at £69.50, £67.50 and £65.50 for Texel x. Averages including a large number of small, poorer bred hill lambs:

Mixed/Clean Lambs : £49,

Theave Lambs : £57,

Tup lambs : £47,

Wether Lambs : £43

CADE LAMBS

Small entry of 19 cade lambs peaking at £26 for a Suffolk x ewe lamb, with others to £23 x2, £22 & £21. Average : £14.

COUPLES

An improved entry of 53 ewes with lambs at foot again selling well to numerous buyers despite the current harsh weather conditions. Ewes with twins peaked at £182 for 3 Texel x full mouth and as found ewes with twin Beltex x lambs from MM & R Morris, Maestanyglwyden, with others from the same home selling for £178 and £175. Full mouth / as found ewes with single Beltex x lambs from Messrs Morris reached £155, £135 and £125 with the consignment of 19 ewes with lambs averaging £60/life. As found mules from GTW Andrew, Bwlch, sold to £142 with twin Suffilk x lambs and £98 with single Suffolk x lambs. 3 and 4 year old texel x ewes from OT Evans, Delfryn, with twin lambs hit £160 with As found texel with twins from the same home selling for £158.

Catalogued sale of couples and in lamb ewes next week (Monday 19th Feb) sale to commence at 11.30am.

A final entry of 165 store cattle sold to averages of 213.73ppkg or  £927.62 per head for steers and heifers averaged 196.48ppkg or £843.25 per head.
