Welshpool will join the rest of Wales in celebrating one of the country’s greatest ever sporting achievements.

Geraint Thomas, who hails from Cardiff stunned the cycling world by winning the Tour de France on Sunday, becoming the first Welshman to do so and adding to his Olympic and World titles.

With landmarks the length and breadth of Wales lighting up in yellow to celebrate, Welshpool has confirmed that the Town Hall will do the same for the rest of the week.

It follows a request made by reader Adie Andrew, who contacted the Council.

“As a Welshman, I’m very proud that Geraint has become the first winner of the Tour de France from Wales,” he told us.

“It’s a huge test of endurance with some very challenging stages this year and to see the Town Hall light up in the colour of his winning jersey will hopefully make people reflect what he has achieved. Bendigedig Geraint Thomas!”

This morning, Town Clerk Robert Robinson, confirmed: “The Town Hall will be coloured yellow from today until Friday in celebration of Geraint Thomas and his win in the Tour de France.”
