Welshpool jobs go as insurance firm closes

A major review by a leading insurance firm has led to a number of Welshpool workers being made redundant in the run-up to Christmas.

Marsh Commercial has closed several of its branches in the UK, including its Welshpool operation which was still known as Jelf. It is not known officially how many people have lost their jobs but it is thought to be around 12.

The move follows a national review which will see over 100 staff losing their jobs with services in future being provided either by call centres or from other branches.

Previously the business was known as Bluefin and Severn Valley Insurance Brokers.

Marsh Commercial will also close branches in Bath, Cheltenham, Newcastle-under-Lyme, New Malden, Newmarket, Northampton, Swansea, Grimsby, Leeds, Horsforth, Malton, Stockton, Forfar and Stirling.
