Heat is impacting rail service

20/07/2021 @ 10:08

There were delays on the Welshpool line yesterday, and users are being warned of more today after Transport for Wales admitted that the excessive heat was impacting services.

Users complained of late trains and confusion over information being shared yesterday, and TfW have held their hands up to say sorry and to warn of possible cancellations as the heat wave continues.

The Shrewsbury-Aberystwyth Rail Liaison Committee posted this morning: “TfW have issued an update on an issue with the Class 158s they are experiencing in the very warm weather we’ve been experiencing.

“During yesterday and this morning, a number of Class 158 hot axle box problems have emerged, and the temperature monitoring strip on the axle has triggered alarms.

“Yesterday, five units were stopped, and today another two have picked up the same problem.

“As a result, there may be some cancellations today whilst we work through our safety procedures and tests. Please check before travel.”

The committee added that TfW will also be looking into the issue of mis-information.
