Teddy Bears Picnic cancelled amidst rising Covid cases

An event that was planned to bring people together to enjoy a family day out in the town following a tough 18 months has been cancelled due to Welshpool’s rising Covid-19 cases.

Welshpool Town Council’s Teddy Bears Picnic was to be held at Maesydre at the end of the month, but with cases spiking, particularly amongst the local under 29 age group, an announcement has been made.

“Due to the increasing numbers of Covid cases in the area, Welshpool Town Council have agreed that it will be necessary to postpone the Teddy Bears Picnic,” the council announced in a statement. “We are looking at a possible date in September but at the current time do not have a definite date. We appreciate that this will be disappointing to the town but we have a responsibility in terms of health and safety and we do not feel that we can meet the Covid requirements at the current time.”

Last week Newtown was declared a Wales Covid hotspot, with cases spilling over the Welshpool area forcing hundreds of people to self-isolate.
