Low-flying plane identified

16/10/2021 @ 08:29

A low-flying large aircraft that had Welshpool residents looking to the skies yesterday has been identified.

The incident was the talk of the town on Friday but thanks to local photographer Paul Williams the aircraft has been identified as an RAF A400M cargo plane.

Paul of H18-PDW Photography was on hand to see the cargo plane make two low passes over Welshpool Airport in what has now been identified as a four-hour round trip from RAF Brize Norton in Oxfordshire to Scotland.

Flight records show the aircraft flew through Shropshire and up the east coast as far as Inverness, then turned and made its return flight down the Irish Sea, before looping around the Hebridean island of Islay and making a low pass over Welshpool.

Our thanks to Paul Williams for the pictures.
