Pupils make 2022 picture perfect
Welshpool Printing Group (WPG) wanted something a bit different for their calendar, so worked with the town’s primary schools to get involved.
The result was impressive with both the Church in Wales Primary School and Ysgol Gymraeg Y Trallwng taking part with children producing some stunning artwork to be used for each month.
Renowned artist Andrew Logan, from Berriew, had the near impossible task of selecting the winning entries and said: “It was wonderful to enter the magic land of children and so difficult to choose winners from so many gorgeous pictures. Well done to everyone.”
The 12 children whose picture was chosen were presented with a t-shirt from WPG with their picture printed on the front.
But, all the entries were so good that WPG decided to include all the pictures in their calendar, adding extra pages to fit them all in.
As a thank you for their wonderful efforts, all the children in both schools were given a copy of the calendar, as well as gifts from WPG and Andrew.
Paul Jones, WPG Joint MD, said: “We were blown away with how good the artwork was. All the children made such a smashing effort that we wanted to give them something in return.
“We were lucky enough to be able to do a presentation at the new Church in Wales (CIW) Primary School with it being shared to all the classes via Teams.”

Justine Baldwin, Headteacher at CIW Primary School, said: “All pupils across the school took part, taking the opportunity to explore their creative skills to design images to convey the different seasons. Everyone was delighted when winners were selected from the school’s entries. This exciting competition gave the pupils a valuable opportunity to contribute in a real context for learning and explore their creative thinking.”
A presentation was also made at Ysgol Gymraeg Y Trallwng where all the children also received gifts and Alice Hickinbotham was given a t-shirt with her picture representing the month of September.
“It was so nice to be asked to be involved, the children have enjoyed taking part and are delighted to have been given a calendar to keep plus lovely thank you gifts,” said Angharad Davies, Acting Headteacher.
