“New life” breathed into the ‘Welly’

Created on 12/01/2022 @ 10:30

Another Welshpool pub is set to reopen, with its owners saying that “new life” was being breathed into The Wellington.

Punch Taverns said that the work currently being undertaken will create “a traditional and contemporary feel” to the pub which has remained closed throughout the pandemic.

The pub is expected to reopen before the end of January with the landlady of the Oak, Guilsfield, Jess Regan, taking on the town centre business.

Andy Wilkinson, Operations Manager at Punch Taverns, told us: “The Wellington, or The Welly as it is lovingly known within the Welshpool community, is currently undergoing investment that will breath new life into this fantastic pub, creating a traditional and contemporary feel.

“The pub will be reopening at the end of January with the new publican, Jess Regan, taking the helm. Jess brings a wealth of experience and expertise that will ensure The Welly continues to operate at the heart of the community for many years to come.”

The Green Dragon, Talbot and the former ‘Churchills’ have all reopened post pandemic but the latter, now called 1898, is currently closed with the owners deciding to sit out the current Welsh Government restrictions.
