National award for Welshpool retailer

A newcomer to the town centre’s retail sector has won a national award at a black-tie event held at the Royal Lancaster Hotel, London.

Gifts of Wales opened last year on Church Street, and has been announced as the “Best Newcomer Retailing Gifts” for the whole UK at the GREATS Awards 2022.

The shop, owned by Guilsfield businesswoman Kathryn Greatorex, is an independent gift and homeware shop selling solely Welsh products including food & drink, textiles, homeware and much more.

“The news is only just starting to sink in,” said Kathryn. “We were thrilled to be in the final and can’t quite believe we won!”

With all products made in Wales and sourced from a variety of small and artisan producers as well as a few well-known Welsh brands, Gifts of Wales in turn supports over 50 other small businesses.

The GREATS Awards are in their 20th year and celebrate the achievements of the gift retailing industry. The Best Newcomer Retailing Gifts category covers all gift retailers in the UK that had opened or changed ownership since 2019.
