Welshpool’s new bus station won’t be fully operational until September, the county council has confirmed.
Our story yesterday on the new £500,000 facility sparked plenty of comments and opinion, and this morning Powys County Council has explained why the site remains largely derelict despite being completed in good time last month.
“Currently, the bus routes in and around Welshpool have not be altered,” the council told us in a statement.
“The council’s fleet and transport team will shortly begin the process of re-registering bus services to re-route some via the bus station.
“This is done via the Office of the Traffic Commissioner and can take up to 56 days so the bus station will not be fully operational until September 2022 to coincide with the new school / college year.”
Readers have complained that buses continue to stop at locations around the town, causing potential safety issues.
