Welshpool’s Olympic athlete Adele Nicoll has revealed that her father, Paul, was taken to hospital on Saturday might following the horror smash on Red Bank when a car hurtled into the family home.
The incident, caught on CCTV, shows a car out of control coming down the steep road and seemingly hitting a curb that sent it literally flying over a hedge and into the home.
Posting the MyWelshpool story earlier to her 32,000 Facebook followers, Adele revealed that she was informed of the incident the evening before competing in Loughborough in the shot put.
Despite the worry, she went on to throw an impressive 17.35m on Sunday, but said her focus now is to support her family.
Adele is one of the top athletes in the UK, and is currently trying to become a Olympian in both shot put and bobsleigh.
The fire service confirmed that two people were taken to hospital after the smash. Mr Nicoll was later released, but it has since been revealed this afternoon that the driver remains in hospital as a result of his injuries.
Here is what Adele (pictured right at a previous meet) posted:
“Less than 24hrs before my competition, on Saturday night I had a phone call to say that my dad was being taken to hospital following a collision. I received the information five minutes before my team meeting and Captain’s speech.
“A vehicle crashed, went airborne and smashed into my family home, leaving serious damage to the building.
“Unfortunately, my dad was stood at the sink against the wall when the car crashed into it. He was knocked down but he is ok, and that's the main thing. He’s so resilient and I admire his strength.
“Just minutes earlier he was stood outside the house so I'm thanking our lucky stars for that one. Thanks to @jamesctomlinson and my mum for handling things at the scene and allowing me to go and do my job the best I could. I kept this to myself until after the competition in attempt to stay calm in the chaos.
“All things considered, it wasn't the way I’d hoped to prepare for my first UK outdoor competition of the season but I’m still walking away with a respectable mark of 17.35m and a Commonwealth Games standard.
“I’ll be helping my family to deal with the damages but I’ll be back out on the field soon.”
