Welly to “reopen soon”

The rebranded and refurbished ‘Welly’ is set to re-open for a second time this year after its owners confirmed a new publican was in place.

The pub, officially known as The Wellington but renamed The Welly following extensive work to upgrade the pub earlier this year, did initially re-open in February, but the publican decided not to continue beyond the initial tenancy, so it has been closed again.

But it seems that the current closure will be brief after Punch Taverns confirmed some good news.

Operations Manager, Andy Wilkinson, told us last night: “The Wellington, or The Welly as it is lovingly known, is currently closed due to the natural end of the current publican’s tenancy being reached.

“The pub will be reopening soon with a new publican taking the helm, who looks forward to ensuring The Welly continues to operate at the heart of the community for many years to come.”

According to its marketing materials, The Welly expects to turn over £224,484 in drinks sales a year.
