Welshpool chased down Harpers’ 242-8 in the MSG Shropshire Division Three thanks largely to a brilliant unbeaten 87 from opener Sam Cadwallader.

He paired up with fellow opener Nick Davies (53) to set Welshpool on their way, and when Tom Bowen chipped in 46, victory was secured in the 38th over for the loss of just three wickets.

Newtown will have to settle for a mid-table spot in Division One after suffering a disappointing home defeat to Bridgnorth.

A late 33 not out from Dave Anthony was needed to boost Newtown’s score to 135 all out after electing to bat.

It was no problem for Bridgnorth who eased to victory in the 26th over for the loss of four wickets.

Montgomery can start planning for life down in Division Three despite having a good go at chasing Division Two leaders Lilleshall’s target of 236-9.

Ed Bennett and Tom Hughes took three wickets apiece for Monty, before the batsman went after the runs, falling short on 213-3 with Andrew Barker (99) and Rob Bennett (78) showing impressive form.

Guilsfield & Llandrinio are virtually safe in Division Four, but visitors Broseley made short work of catching their target of 200-8.

Duncan Todd (38), Dan Brown (38) and Lewis Todd (27no) were the main run makers, but Broseley have an impressive batting line-up, and the top order eased them home in the 25th over for an eight-wicket win.

Llanidloes were given the game with Alberbury II unable to raise a team in Division Five, and Newtown II were beaten at Shrewsbury III despite setting a decent 213-7. Richard Smout (50), Danny Foulkes (47) and Callum Foulkes (45) were among the Newtown runs.

Montgomery II chased down Quatt III’s 196-8 in Division Six with James Roberts (72no) and Matthew Jones (57) leading the way.

But the performance of the day came from Welshpool II’s Kieran Evans who smashed 140 runs in his side’s 177-run victory at Quayside.

Evans saw Welshpool through to 319-7 with support from Matt Sherwood (60), before Adam Gannon and Neil Pryce took four wickets apiece to propel Welshpool back to the top of the Division Seven table.
