Welshpool Pride event in 2023

21/12/2022 @ 06:01

Welshpool is set to host its first pride event next summer, with a day of entertainment that should have something for everyone.

After 40 years as a performer, including being a drag artist, Andrew James Way called it a day five years ago, but the entertainer is making a comeback as part of his plans to host the event on July 15.

Andrew performs as Miss Gins and declared his plans to Welshpool Town Council, who are keen to support.

“I have performed on many Prides myself and have been in the entertainment industry for over 40 years,” Andrew, from Welshpool, told us.

“The aim of Welshpool’s first Pride is to bring everybody together in the community as we have had a lot of support shown from local shops so far.

“Throughout the day, there will be entertainment with tribute acts like Elvis, Meatloaf and lots more.”

Andrew said that a Rocky Horror Experience will be staged on the eve of the big day, and added that tickets will go on sale soon.

His plans were warmly received by the town council with town clerk, Anne Wilson, saying those in attendance at the meeting were “supportive of the initiative”.

Pride events are a celebration of people coming together in love and friendship, to show how far LGBTQ+ rights have come, and how in some places there’s still work to be done.

Several events have been introduced to Powys in recent years.
