An investigation has been launched following the sad death of an elderly lady in a crash that closed the main road through Middletown for most of Monday.

The accident happened around 7.30am on the A458 near to Bank Farm Caravan Park and involved a blue Honda Civic and a white service bus, which were travelling towards Shrewsbury, and a dark red Ford Fiesta which was travelling towards Welshpool.

Police have confirmed this morning that the 87-year-old female driver and sole occupant of the Ford Fiesta sustained serious injuries and passed away in hospital later the same day.

The driver of the Honda was taken to hospital. The bus did not have any passengers and the driver was uninjured.

“Anyone who witnessed the collision, or anyone who has information that could help the investigation, is asked to contact police,” a spokesperson for Dyfed-Powys Police said.

“Police are especially appealing for anyone with dashcam, ring door-bell or CCTV footage along the A483 between Newtown and Welshpool and also the A458 between Welshpool and Bank Farm that may have seen / captured the blue Honda Civic travelling between 7am and 7.30am to come forward.”

Police can be contacted either online at https://bit.ly/DPPContactOnline, by emailing 101@dyfed-powys.police.uk, or by calling 101.

If you are deaf, hard of hearing, or speech impaired text the non-emergency number on 07811 311 908.
