The Grapes A will meet the Red Lion in the final of the Welshpool and District Darts League Cup Sponsored by Canalside Carpets, writes Steve Lloyd.

Friday night’s action saw the Grapes A book their spot with a brilliant 5-2 win over the Horse and Jockey, played at the Westwood.

Jordan Harding took the first game before Liam Richards levelled for the Churchstoke side. Jamie Cater and Keith Gamble then took the next games for the Grapes A before Ben Marsden won for the Horse and Jockey to keep it tight at 3-2 going into the doubles.

But Cater and Harding secured the Grapes win, with Steve Proctor and Gamble completing the task for the Grapes.

The Castle Caereinion hosted the other semi-final which turned out to be a classic, with the Red Lion Llanfair upsetting the much-fancied Green Dragon A.

Tom Evans and Gwyn Evans gave the second division Red Lion a surprise 2-0 lead before Steve Price (180), Rhys Butler and Mitch Butler put the Green Dragon A into the lead after the singles. But against the odds, the Red Lion took both doubles matches with Tom Evans and Clive Jones and Gwyn Evans and Glyn Davies victorious.

In the Will Nunn sponsored-Cup semi-finals, The Kings Head played the Grapes B at the Oak Guilsfield and Darren Hyland, Gareth Steadman and Kacey Jones raced the Kings into a 3-0 lead, before Colin Quinn and Chris White pulled two back for the Grapes B.

Darren Hyland and Gareth Steadman then secured the win for the Kings before Gareth Isaac and Keith Bonner won the last doubles.

They will meet the Punchbowl who stunned the Green Dragon B at the Grapes, 6-1.

Chris Jay came from one down to win 2-1, which included a maximum 180 and a 16-dart leg in the first game. Brian Jones (92 out shot) and Tim Barley then increased the Punchbowl’s lead before Cameron Williams (130 out shot) pulled a game back for the Green Dragon B.

Mike Hall (captain) secured the match for the Punchbowl before the Punchbowl won both doubles.

The finals will be:

Canalside Carpets League Cup - Grapes A v Red Lion Llanfair

Will Nunn-sponsored Cup – Punchbowl v Kings Head Guilsfield.

Games to be played at neutral venues to be arranged.

NOTE: Thanks go to the landlords and landladies that provided the venues for these games to take place. The Grapes, The Westwood, The Red Lion Castle and the Oak Guilsfield.
