While Luke Littler has taken the sporting world by storm with his startling rise to the top of darts, Welshpool has its own story to follow, and our rising star is not even a teenager yet!

Twelve-year-old Rhys Butler has been in outstanding form this season in the Welshpool & District Darts League, already proving to be one of the top performers.

So, it was no surprise that he made his county debut for Montgomery and Radnor B at the weekend, throwing a maximum 180 with his first three darts!

Taking to the oche against Northumberland on Saturday, Rhys followed up his perfect start by winning his match 3-1 with a fine 23.71 average per dart, which was the best of the day and landed him the Man of the Match award.

“What a debut for the Welshpool youngster,” said our darts correspondent, Steve Lloyd, who said Rhys’s father Mitch, who is a Welsh international, was not surprised at the way his son performed having watched him play at home since he could throw a dart.”

“Speaking on behalf of Welshpool and District Darts League, well done young man and we are proud of you. Watch out for the name. Rhys Butler.”
