The future of darts in the Welshpool area appears to be in safe hands as a 12-year-old and a nine-year-old faced off in the final of the annual League Doubles competition held at The Green Dragon Welshpool.

Twenty-two teams took part with some gripping matches played throughout the night, leading to Rhys Butler, 12, partnering with his father Mitch to face Steve Price and his lad, Jack Bellerby, nine.

The latter booked their final spot with a victory over Graham Lewis and Jordan Harding (Grapes A) in the last four.

While the Butlers (Green Dragon A) beat Chris White and Colin Quinn (Grapes B) in their semi-final encounter.

This set up the prospect of a final never seen before as both finalists were related to each other as well as being father/son teams.

The final went the distance with both pairs performing well before the final leg where Bellerby took out 48 with two darts to clinch the title. A reminder, that he is just nine!

The emergence of young talent has led to a call for a youth league, and anyone who feels they can help is encouraged to contact a committee member.
