“Amazing line-up” for 10th Welshpool Poetry Festival

22/05/2025 @ 09:24

While Welshpool prepares to rock to the beat of the Welshpool Music Festival this Sunday, another of the town’s big events has announced a first-class line-up for the following week.

The 10th Welshpool Poetry Festival will take place on June 6-7 at the Church House with a number of events that will cater for all tastes, with the opportunity to have a go yourself too!

Renowned poets Caroline Bird, Jonathan Davidson and Jonathan Edwards are listed for the Friday night from 7pm (6th), while the Saturday evening’s entertainment is provided from 7pm by Angela France, Luke Kennard and Helen Mort.

Tickets are still available for these evening readings and there is also an opportunity to participate through Zoom to make them truly accessible.

The workshops running alongside the weekend sold out in just a few days, but there are free places available for the Open Mic from 4-6pm on the Saturday.

You can attend in-person (just sign up on the day, no need to get a ticket) or via Zoom (free tickets via website).

This whole spectacular celebration of contemporary poetry has been made possible
by the generous sponsorship of the Poetry Pharmacy, created by poet Deborah Alma.

The Poetry Pharmacy is a book shop, cafe and workshop space in Bishop’s Castle, Shropshire. It has also been replicated on the first floor of the Lush store on Oxford Street in London courtesy of a fantastic collaboration between Deborah Alma and the Lush CEO, Mark Constantine.
“Do consider buying some tickets and coming along to the festival,” said Pat Edwards.

“You won’t be disappointed and may even discover a love for poetry you didn’t know you had!

“Poetry isn’t just the stuff you did at school for exams. Poetry can unravel complicated emotions, make us laugh, offer healing, give us an essential boost, make us think.”
