Official road closure diversion via Llanfair, motorists told

Motorists impacted by the closure of the A470 road between Guilsfield and Welshpool are being officially told to take a whopping diversion via Meifod and Llanfair Caereinion.

Hafren Dyfrdwy has closed the main road so they can carry out 1.5km-worth of pipe replacement in a £690,000-project.

But there has been widespread confusion for motorists believing that they should head to Welshpool via Arddleen.

This morning, the water company has issued this map showing that motorists should in fact take the 26-mile route via Meifod and Llanfair Caereinion, a journey that can take up to 45 minutes instead of the usual five.

It is believed that the Arddleen route was dismissed due to two weeks of night closures expected on the road during November close to the Buttington Roundabout developments.

Last week, local county councillor, Ian Harrison urged Hafren Dyfrdwy to carry out the work 24 hours a day to shorten the timeline. But this was largely dismissed by the company who said they will consistently review operations as it continues.
