Outpouring of grief after local man's death

Welshpool has been stunned by the tragic news that well known and popular local man Dale McNamee was killed in a suspected hit-and-run close to Bridgnorth early on Saturday morning.

West Mercia Police has appealed for information after the body of a man was found on the A458 Shrewsbury to Bridgnorth road at around 4.30am close to the Riverside Inn, Cound, between the villages of Cressage and Cross Houses.

And although a name has not been released officially, Facebook has been plastered with tributes to 36 year-old Dale, the son of Montgomery Town Football Club manager Clive.

PC Mike Pearce said: “We are keeping an open mind but the indications at this time would suggest this man may have been in collision with a vehicle which did not stop at the scene.

“This has happened on an unlit country road around half a mile from Cross Houses and we are considering the possibility that the driver did not realise what had happened.”

Police are particularly keen to trace the occupants of a white van that drove past at about 4:20am. It is believed that they were wearing fluorescent yellow jackets.

Meanwhile, both Clive and Dale’s sister Kelly have posted messages on their Facebook walls thanking people for the overwhelming support.
