READERS: One last push to get 10,000 signatures

12/10/2026 @ 09:35

MyTown Media is once again breaking our neutrality protocol to urge all readers of MyWelshpool and MyNewtown that havn’t yet signed the petition to scrap drastic local hospital cuts to do so today.

Powys Teaching Health Board is proposing ludicrous cuts that will downgrade community hospitals like Welshpool’s to almost nothing. Fuelling fears that we are in the home straight to eventually seeing the hospital close for good.

If the health board goes ahead with this first phase, Welshpool will lose its beds, X-Ray facility and Minor Injury Unit in one go.

We can’t let these changes happen. The health services we currently receive are disgraceful compared to the rest of the UK, so if these further cuts go ahead, then there will be very little left for us locally.

That is why we have broken our proud tradition of being neutral on all issues and normally allowing our readers to decide. We simply can’t sit on the fence when the health and well-being of our own staff, families and friends are being put in serious danger by these proposals.

So, please sign the proposal, let’s get these horrific ideas debated properly in the Senedd and push for improvingour health services, and bringing an end to our current bargain-basement offering.

We need 10,000 signatures, and at the moment we are on 9,300. You have done it before with big issues, and we know our readers well enough after 16 years of serving you to say that together we can do it again. We have to defeat these cuts but can only do it if we show a united front. In the health board’s own words, ‘Better Together’ we can show the health chiefs just how united we can be when you take us for granted.

These proposals simply cannot happen. We want better health services, not worse.

You can sign the petition by clicking here.
