26/03/2014 @ 12:31

The young stars of AJ Judo of Welshpool and Llanfyllin struck gold when they took part in the Pre Cadet Welsh Open Judo Championships in Cardiff.

Four out of the six team members won medals, an increadible achievement considering that four of the team were competing in their first major tournament.

Seren Lovatt fought excellent against tough opposition to bring home gold in her weight, while her brother Reuben Lovatt, just nine, showed his potential under pressure in the U12 category by finishing fifth.

Team mate Ricky Reed, again in his first major tournament and in a full weight category, fought well against stronger and much more experienced opponents to take a seventh.

In the U15 event, Ffion Lovatt debut resulted in a Bronze while Steven Breese gave his all in his bid to reach the final, but had to settle for a Bronze too.

Last out was George Hudson took on Great Britain team members, but it did not stop him taking silver, only losing in the final on a penalty.

AJ Judo of Welshpool and Llanfyllin have set their sights set on the Nationals, then to the Welsh National Squads, and looking towards Great Britain Team.

Head coach Alan Jones BJA 7th Dan puts their success down to the skill sessions held in Llanfyllin Leisure Centre on Monday nights and said he was delighted with the progress.
