Twenty years after originally being launched as the Magic 756, Montgomeryshire’s local radio station has joined the FM revolution.
Listeners can now tune in to 102.1FM for Radio Hafren, the new station that rose from the ashes of the defunct Magic 756 three years ago.
The station is still broadcasting on the old frequency for the foreseeable future, but owners hope the new and improved sound on FM will boost listenership.
“Radio Hafren recognises that not all listeners will be able to receive the new signal due to the difficult terrain in our region, and for that reason is committed to continue broadcasting on 756 AM for the foreseeable future to serve the widest possible audience,” said the Newtown-based station’s Alistair Tyne.
Radio Hafren’s programmes on 102.1 FM started at 10:21 am on Monday, with a one-off special programme to mark the occasion, following two weeks of test broadcasts.
