Katie Bellerby continued her superb form at the Six Nations Women’s Darts Championship in Northern Ireland by helping Wales to the title, writes Steve Lloyd.
The Welshpool and District Darts League star beat World No. 1 Deta Hedman twice over the tournament and claimed another big scalp in England’s Lorraine Winstanley on the way to a 5-3 title clinching victory over England.
Katie comes from a darts family who have played in the Welshpool League for many years. Her brothers and sister also play and are all formidable opponents, as is her mother Val.
Meanwhile in the latest league action, The Grapes Mitch Butler celebrated his Welsh call up with a fine 2-1 win against the Talbot B’s plucky Shaun Humphreys. Mitch hit two 180’s, had a 119 check out and a 12-dart 501. The league leaders won 6-1 to stay 11 points clear in Division One. Talbot B’s Pete Humphreys hit a 180.
Mark Emberton’s 120-game shot helped the Kings Head Guilsfield to a 5-2 win at the Red Lion Llanfair, and the Westwood A edged a 4-3 win at the Pheasant who’s Roger Knight hit a 112 game shot. The Talbot A were one of the teams of the day with a 7-0 win at the Raven A. Robin Shingler had a 14-dart 501 and Louise George bagged a 180.
Division Two sees the other team of the day, Castle 26ers, moving within three points of the top with a 7-0 win at the Goat. The Green Dragon A beat the Powis Arms 5-2 and Castle A won 4-3 against the Wellington.
The Crown Monty maintained their winning streak with a 4-3 win at the Social Club and the Westwood B made home advantage count with a 5-2 win against the Station Grill.
