Going once, going twice, SOLD!

It was feared that being a Grade II-listed building would put off investors, but the former Ardwyn School site in Welshpool has been sold at auction for a whopping £356,000.

The school closed several years ago and was being operated as the temporary site for the Welsh speaking school until it moved to its new Maesydre home earlier this year.

It meant that the site was surplus to requirements, so Powys County Council put it up for online auction, with a guide price of £85,000.

But it soon became clear that developers were queueing up on Tuesday and after 48 hours and 123 bids, it finally closed this evening for the healthy sum.

The building was the first school built in the county following World War II, and it was marketed as a property that could be developed into five bungalows, assisted living accommodation, office space, or a leisure facility for a dance studio, gym, yoga studio.

There is also land that could be developed, dependent on permissions.
