Road chaos as water pipe bursts

Motorists heading from Newtown to Welshpool faced traffic chaos today due to a burst water main.

The main A483 road was closed between Abermule and Garthmyl because of the burst pipe. 

During peak rush hour, traffic built up on both sides of the road closure. A diversion through Abermule towards Caerhowel caused motorists to be stuck for more than half an hour, with reports of an accident there too.

At 10am, the road remained closed as emergency work was undertaken, and no re-opening time has been provided.
