Banking Hub protest over disabled access

05/08/2024 @ 11:11

A Welshpool man has decided enough is enough and has protested at the lack of disabled access to the Banking Hub this morning.

Roger Martin promised on several Welshpool Facebook groups that he would take action, and this morning he has put a chain across the main entrance.

The Banking Hub has been promising disabled access since it opened last year, but planning red tape has delayed the implementation with it still going through the process.

He promised ion Facebook this morning: “This morning I will putting a chain across the entrance of the banking hub no access so no access for anyone for a short time until police make me move.”

He told Phil Blagg, who took the picture, that he would move when the police arrive, but MyWelshpool believes they were called 45 minutes prior to Mr Blagg taking the picture.

Three days ago, Mr Martin wrote: “The Banking Hub is a complete and utter joke, they do not even have a ramp they can put down for customers who are disabled or elderly. Complete and utter discrimination. They can break the law and get away with it. Meant to be for the community not just able body people.”

When we last spoke to the Banking Hub over the issue in June, we were told: “In terms of the timeline – we hope it will be soon, but we don’t have a specific date we can give you at the moment.”
