Welshpool Mayor Phil Owen has called for unity after being elected for a second term in office.
Cllr Owen said he was “honoured” to have been elected for a second year after receiving more votes than Cllr Sally Fitzgerald at last night’s Full Council meeting, which was livestreamed on You Tube for the first time.
Accepting the chains of office for a second time, Cllr Owen said: “If we act together, listen to each other even though we don’t agree, then we can get along.”
However, his second year got off to a tricky start with Cllr Billy Spencer announcing his resignation (see earlier story).
Meanwhile, Cllr David France said he did not want to be considered as Deputy Mayor for a second term due to new work commitments, so Cllr Bill Rowell pipped Cllr Fitzgerald to the post on a vote.
Welshpool mayors are only allowed to serve two terms, so this will be the second and final year for Cllr Owen.
