Just 24 hours after the very public resignation of Cllr Billy Spencer, Welshpool Town Council has already advertised his vacanct seat.
Cllr Spencer called it a day with all guns blazing on Wednesday night, accusing some fellow councillors of putting their own interests first at the full council meeting being livestreamed on YouTube for all to see.
But Town Clerk, Richard Williams, activated the process yesterday to find his replacement, with nominations now being taken.
“Following the recent resignation of Town Councillor Billy Spencer, a casual vacancy has been declared in the office of Town Councillor for Llanerchyddol Ward,” said Mr Williams.
“Welshpool Town Council is part of a representative democracy and is composed of people elected by the community to make decisions locally, on behalf of residents.
“If you have ideas on how to improve Welshpool and make it a better place to visit, live and explore please consider this opportunity to give back to your local community.”
An election will be held if within 14 working days of publication of the declaration, a request in writing for an election is given to the Deputy Returning Officer by 10 electors for the electoral area.
A request should be sent by letter / post to:
