Newtown College business students are putting the finishing touches to their ambitious Colour Run 5K event, which takes place this Sunday at Dolerw Park with the full backing of Newtown Town Council.

The Level 3 Business students from NPTC Group of Colleges have secured £900 in council funding for their charity fundraiser, which will see participants doused in vibrant coloured powder as they complete the 5k course on Sunday, 1st June.

The event follows months of planning for the students, who have taken on the project as part of their final coursework. The real-world experience has given them hands on training in event planning, fundraising, budgeting, marketing, and community engagement.

All proceeds from the Colour Run will benefit Cancer Research, with organisers hoping the vibrant and inclusive nature of the event will attract participants from across the area.

The format promises a fun twist on traditional running events, with runners being covered in safe, washable coloured powder at various stations throughout the course.

Newtown Town Council said it recognised the educational value of the project whilst supporting its charitable aims. It has donated £900.

Dolerw Park provides an ideal venue for the event, offering ample space for both the running course and spectator areas. The students have coordinated with local authorities to ensure all necessary safety measures are in place for what promises to be one of the most colourful events in Newtown's calendar.

The Colour Run represents more than just a fundraising event for the NPTC students. It provides a practical demonstration of their business studies learning, requiring them to manage budgets, coordinate marketing campaigns, liaise with stakeholders, and deliver a successful community event.

Local residents and visitors are being urged to take part or spectate at Sunday's event, which promises to bring a splash of colour to Newtown.
