The group behind one of two protests planned in Newtown on Saturday says it is not a far right protest.

The Newtown Action Committee is planning a protest in the town centre against asylum seekers in the UK. But they say the protest will be peaceful, despite coverage saying otherwise.

Meanwhile, another group is planning another protest against it. One is in Broad Street and the other in High Street.

Police have said they have contigency plans in place and the CAA has supported a no-fly zone up to 2,000ft above the town centre on Saturday to prevent drones from flying over.

Billy Hunt, from Newtown Action Committee, has posted on Faceboom saying: "The Newtown Action Committee chairman has been in talks with Dyfed Powys Police for a considerable amout of time. An event plan has been submitted with our intentions of what our plan is and have included a statement of intent.

"But as usual the media are going out of their way to portray this as a far right protest."
