Residents invited to shape the future of local communities

10/10/2025 @ 01:44

People in Newtown, Montgomery, Welshpool, and Llanfair Caereinion are being encouraged to take part in a new series of “Community Conversations” that will help shape the future of local services and support across Powys.

The events, organised by Powys Association of Voluntary Organisations (PAVO), are designed to give residents the chance to talk about what matters most to them, highlight any gaps in local services, and suggest practical improvements.

They form part of the UK Government’s Shared Prosperity Fund programme and are supported by Powys County Council.

PAVO Chief Executive, Clair Swales, said: “This is about listening to the people who know their communities best. We’ve already been out and about over the summer, gathering views at local shows and events – now we want to hear directly from you.”

Community Conversations will take place in 16 locations across the county, with local events planned for:

  • Newtown – Thursday 27 November, 10am to 1pm, at Newtown Football Club

  • Montgomery – Tuesday 2 December, 10am to 1pm, at Montgomery Town Hall

  • Llanfair Caereinion – Wednesday 3 December, 10am to 1pm, at Llanfair Institute

  • Welshpool – Thursday 4 December, 10am to 1pm, at Cowshacc, Oldford Lane

Each event will include a Community Fair, where people can meet local organisations, learn about support available, and discover what’s happening in their area.

Ms Swales added, “We hope the conversations that start now will help build a Powys that reflects people’s needs, supports grassroots initiatives, and strengthens future funding bids.

“PAVO can support residents to bring their ideas to life by offering guidance on running charities, groups and clubs, and help identifying funding opportunities.”

All events are open to the public. Residents who cannot attend in person can still share their views by completing a short online survey about life in Powys at Have Your Say Powys.
