Welshpool green lights new strategic plan for the town

13/10/2025 @ 10:10

Welshpool Town Council has formally approved its Interim Strategic Plan 2025–2028.

The plan sets out the Council’s vision and priorities for the next three years and is shaped around 222 responses submitted between June and August from residents, businesses and community groups containing over 1,000 comments.

The plan is structured around five key themes:

  • Town Centre & Regeneration – including the redevelopment of the Town Hall, revitalisation of the markets, and a Place Plan for future development.
  • Open Spaces – investment in parks and play areas, enhancement of the Motte & Bailey, and making Welshpool a dog-friendly town.
  • Community Services – protecting public toilets, securing the Ann Holloway Day Centre, strengthening Meals on Wheels, and promoting allotments.
  • Events & Tourism – expanding the events programme, keeping events free wherever possible, and improving the Tourist Information Centre.
  • Improving the Council – boosting communication and transparency, engaging the community more, and ensuring financial sustainability.

Mayor of Welshpool, Cllr Phil Owen, said: “This plan has been built around what our residents told us. We are grateful to everyone who contributed their views, whether through the survey, at community events, or in writing. The plan gives us a clear direction of travel for the next three years, and we look forward to working with partners, businesses and local people to bring it to life.”
