Newtown road WON’T be closed this week

20/10/2025 @ 04:01

Concerns that the road to Newtown would be closed this week have been allayed by the North and Mid Wales Trunk Road Agency.

The Welsh Government agency had applied for the Order to close the A483 every night (7pm-7am) until October 27, from Sarn-y-bryn Caled Roundabout close to Welshpool all the way to the Robert Owen Roundabout in Newtown.

This is to allow essential road works to be carried out.

But in an update issued by email today, Route Manager, Adam Christie-Rees from the Agency said: “I can confirm that the A483 between Newtown and Welshpool will not be subject to closure this week for planned works.

“The Traffic Order has been issued to facilitate essential maintenance along sections of the A483 where existing safety zones are insufficient for operatives to work safely - this applies to nearly the entire stretch of the 14-mile route.

“While the Order permits work along the full length of the road, these will be carried out in segmented phases. As such, it is highly unlikely that the entire road will be closed at any one time (other than emergency closures).

“Please note that a temporary overnight closure is scheduled from November 4 to November 8, 2025, between the hours of 8pm and 6am, to complete surfacing works approximately 850 metres north of the Robert Owen roundabout, near Penarth Vineyard.

“Advanced warning signs will be installed to notify road users of the closure, and appropriate diversion routes will be clearly marked during the works.”

Motorists heading towards Trewern from Welshpool will, however, face a road closure at Buttington Roundabout for eight weeknights from tonight. This is to allow work to be carried out on the new Costa Coffee Drive-Thru.
