One of Newtown’s best-known nightlife venues has announced it will close its doors at the end of 2025.
According to a post on its official Facebook page, The Steam Mill on Broad Street will operate throughout the remainder of the year before permanently shutting after the new year.
The club’s management said that, after many years serving the community, the decision comes in response to changing market conditions within the late-night scene. While an exact closing date has not yet been revealed, the post encouraged customers to keep an eye on the page for forthcoming details and farewell events.
“We are immensely grateful to all our staff, performers and customers who have made The Steam Mill what it is. This has not been an easy decision but we believe it is the right one given the current environment.”
They added that the team will be working together over the coming months to ensure that the final months of operation are managed with respect and celebration of what the club has achieved.
The Steam Mill, previously known as Crystals, has been a hub of social activity in Newtown, hosting club nights, themed events and live music.
On Facebook, the venue thanked both its staff and patrons for their support over the years. It described the final months of its operation as “a celebration of everything The Steam Mill has meant to this community”.
