SP Energy Networks have said that “there are no customers currently off supply” following last night’s explosion at its mains box located on The Cross.
Emergency services rushed to the scene at around 7.35pm last night following the incident which could be heard across large parts of the town.
Thankfully no-one was hurt and any potential fire risks were distinguished by firefighters who rushed to the scene.
The area was closed off overnight but was back open this morning.
A spokesperson for SP Energy Networks said this morning: “Our engineers were called to Welshpool town centre to investigate an underground cable fault. There are no customers currently off supply, with minimal supply interruptions only taking place in the early hours of this morning to progress repairs.
“Our teams are now working to repair the affected section of underground cable to maintain supplies and minimise disruption. We thank customers for their patience and apologise for any inconvenience.”
