Following a week of weather warnings, the Welshpool area is now under threat of flooding after alerts were issued for both the River Severn and the River Vyrnwy.

Areas around the River Severn from Newtown to the Severn-Vyrnwy Confluence are under threat of flooding, while the River Vyrnwy, River Tanat and River Cain and their tributaries also expected to trouble low lying communities and roads.

Roads close to Meifod Bridge, the B4393 near Llansantffraid Bridge and the B4398 at New Bridge, Llanymynech, could also be affected by the rising levels.

“We will continue to monitor the situation. Snowmelt and rainfall are currently affecting this area,” said a spokesperson for Natural Resources Wales who issue the flood warnings.

Some rainfall is expected through today, but temperatures are reaching as high as 11°.
