Heavy rain warning for Welshpool area

26/01/2026 @ 07:29

The Welshpool area looks set for a good soaking after the Met Office issued a yellow warning for rain from 3pm today (Monday).

The warning states that “outbreaks of heavy rain likely to bring some transport disruption and flooding in places”, with the yellow warning in place until noon tomorrow.

Our local rivers have been on flood alert for the past couple of weeks since snow covered the area, and with no let up to the wet weather in the short term, we can expect problems at the usual trouble spots again this week.

What the Met Office warns us to expect?

  • Homes and businesses could be flooded, causing damage to some buildings
  • Delays or cancellations to train and bus services are possible
  • Spray and flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures
  • Some communities may be cut off by flooded roads
  • Possible power cuts and loss of other services to some homes and businesses
