Llandrinio Bridge closed for the week

Nearly a year after being struck by a mystery vehicle, Llandrinio Bridge is set to finally undergo its repair work this week leaving motorists having to take a diversion.

The five-day closure from today allows engineers to repair the stone wall that collapsed into the River Severn below following the hit-and-run on October 27 last year.

The historic 18th-century bridge carries the B4393 and following last year’s incident, emergency services responded including a water rescue team fearing that a vehicle had fallen into the river.

Due to its listed status, the delay to the work was caused by engineers wanting to retrieve the original stone blocks which was done earlier this year.

Powys County Council has given notice that the road is expected to stay closed unto midnight on October 2 (Friday), but it could open sooner if the work is completed.
