Welshpool, Powys, twinned with Deadpool, Hollywood!

We told you on Saturday about Welshpool’s unbelievable Hollywood boost in the new Deadpool blockbuster, and we now have confirmation as to who is playing the new character.

Deadpool actor Ryan Reynolds, who is co-owner of Wrexham, has given a huge nod to his adopted Wales with a new character in his third edition of the Marvel series called Welshpool.

He is one of the Deadpool clones, and it was rumoured that the person playing it was non-other than Wrexham super striker Paul Mullin.

And in a typical Ryan Reynolds-way, last night the Hollywood A-lister told his tens of millions of social media followers:

“You may have noticed one member of the Deadpool Corps was far deadlier than the rest. WELSHPOOL,” he posted, alongside pictures with Mullin unmasked.

The Deadpool franchise has a massive global following with the new film, Deadpool & Wolverine, expected to be the box office’s busiest film this year.

It remains to be seen how Welshpool can benefit from the exposure, but businesses will be hoping that our two minutes of fame can become something much more beneficial.
