New Head Coach for Welshpool Sharks

30/03/2021 @ 10:03

A new Head Coach will be at the helm of Welshpool Sharks, after Alan Webster was finally able to take up a new job overseas.

The pandemic has delayed Webster’s departure, but it has allowed the club plenty of time to find a replacement and it will come in the form of Steve Parker, who joins the swimming club from Chirk Dragons.

Webster has been with the Sharks for five years and was instrumental in implementing a Masters training session within the club which was just picking up momentum as the pandemic struck.

During his time he has also coached the club’s Para Swimmer who has been selected for the Welsh Para Squad and has helped the club achieve the Insport Bronze Standard for being an all inclusive club.

Webster has built the club up to its current standing and has implemented a development group which has been identified for the incoming coach.

Parker is a Level 3 Coach and headed Chirk Dragons for 15 years, achieving some impressive results.

He wanted to coach a club closer to his home and the Sharks opportunity came at the right time.

Prior to the pool opening, the Sharks will be going open water swimming, and there are plenty of plans ahead for the club through increasing sessions, introducing development squads, a tri squad and growing the Masters Squad.

“Welshpool Sharks would like to wish Alan ‘bon voyage’ and please visit when you are home,” said a Sharks spokesperson. “We would also like to welcome Steve Parker and hope he is looking forward to being part of our family-friendly, all-inclusive club.”
