Saturday will see the final league games of 2021 for those clubs playing in the North Wales rugby leagues, writes Gary Williams.
Welshpool host Abergele and will be hoping to leapfrog their coastal rivals, who are just one place higher in the league, with a home win at the Maesydre. In fact, a home win could possibly move Pool into fourth.
Coach Dai Roberts said: “We have a strong squad available and I’m sure the lads will want to put on a good show as it’s the last game of a disjointed 2021.
“Hopefully there will be a good home crowd to watch what I'm sure will be a good, open game. We're looking forward to it.”
Newtown, languishing at the foot of the table with three defeats out of three, have the opportunity to start climbing the table with a result against visitors Colwyn Bay, who are just a couple of places above the boys from the Rec on four points.
The eagle-eyed amongst you will have noticed that two North Wales teams are travelling down to Mid Wales when perhaps, with a bit of hindsight, when scheduling the league fixtures it might have been better to have had a Mid Wales derby and a North Wales derby on this very busy Saturday. Just my opinion.
COBRA, enjoying a super start to the season, sit proudly in second place in Division One North, after some rousing performances in the early part of the season. However, they will face a stern test as they host Pwllheli, in third place, who are unbeaten so far this season and with games in hand on their Meifod hosts.
The other Mid Wales side in action this weekend is unbeaten Llanidloes in Division Three North. The visitors are Ruthin, also unbeaten in this division so there is the potential of a full-blooded affair at Cae Hafren as both sides attempt to hang on to their unbeaten run.
Machynlleth, also in Division 3, are unfortunately without a game as their game at Rhos has been postponed.
