Adele in bobsleigh horror crash

28/11/2022 @ 03:05

We collectively held our breath today when our very own Adele Nicoll took a tumble at up to 75mph whilst competing in the Bobsleigh Europa Cup second round in Altenburg, Germany.

The 26-year-old, who finished sixth in her first event earlier this month, appeared to lose control of her sled just 30 seconds into her first run on what is considered one of the world’s toughest tracks.

It sent the sled tumbling onto its right hand side, leaving Adele’s head dangerously close to the ice as it slid down out of control for the remainder of the track.

Thankfully she was quickly back on her feet, taking immediate evasive action when the sled tipped, and she was quick to reassure her huge local following that she was OK.

“The same boiling water that softens the potato, hardens the egg. It’s what your made of that determines your response to the circumstances,” she said.

“It wouldn't be realistic if I only posted about my wins. This is the reality of bobsleigh. A small mistake in one corner in Heat 1 today, resulted in a crash. I got checked over by the medical team and decided to go again for Heat 2.

“If I'm being honest, I've probably never been more nervous in my life. I've only been driving for five weeks, so today was a tough mental challenge.

“But I did and I did it well. My finish time for Heat 2 was good. Unfortunately, bobsleigh works on an average of times from Heat 1 & 2. But I'll be back again for tomorrow's race.”

She then had a word of reassurance for her lead sponsor, local businessman and football club owner Mike Harris.

“It’s OK Mike, the TNS logo is still intact!”

Footage of Adele’s crash and successful Heat 2 run can be seen on her social media pages.
