It is a trip into the unknown for Welshpool this weekend as they head to Blaina in the WRU Division 3 Cup, writes Gary Williams.
The South Wales hosts are currently second in Division Three East and haven't lost a game since September, scoring plenty of tries and points in the process, but it is a challenge that Welshpool is relishing.
Head Coach, Daley Jones, said: “Despite two defeats, the boys are still feeling confident and really looking forward to a trip south for a change from our northern travels.
“We know nothing about Blaina, we suspect they know very little about us, so it’s a one-off and, on our day, we can give anybody a game. We’ll be looking for the usual 100% effort and commitment and are definitely up for the challenge.”
In Division One North, COBRA have a long journey to Llangefni as they seek to get back to winning ways. The Meifod men need a win to halt the slide down the league table and will target this game as one to pick up valuable points.
Newtown are unfortunately without a game this weekend.
In Division Three North East, COBRA 2nds host Wrexham 2nds and, like their first team, will be looking to get back to winning ways to maintain their challenge at the top of the table.
Llanidloes entertain unbeaten Machynlleth in what should be a thriller at Cae Hafren. Mach will be looking to make it eight wins out of eight but will have to be at their best against a Llani side who will be treating this game like a cup final.
A real high for rugby in the Severn Valley recently is that the four clubs: Welshpool, COBRA, Newtown and Llanidloes, are now fielding second teams. COBRA 2nds are the only team playing in the league, but it is very encouraging to see the other three clubs starting to play friendly fixtures.
