The Horse & Jockey again displayed their title credential with a resounding 6-1 over the Westwood to remain top of the Welshpool and District Darts League, sponsored by The New Saints FC.

The leaders raced into a 6-0 lead with captain, Leigh Marsdon, hitting a 180. Despite losing a leg to Steve Lloyd with a 100 shot out, Liam Richards impressed with a 16-dart leg to win 2-1. The Westwood taking only the final doubles to stop the whitewash.

Second placed Grapes A kept up the pressure on the leaders with a 6-1 win over the Green Dragon C.

It was 6-0 until Gethin Stephens and ex-Grapes player, Dave Knight, took the last doubles for the Green Dragon C.

Third placed Green Dragon A beat the Red Lion Llanfair with Steve Price hitting 2 x 180s and a 15-dart 501. Youngster Rhys Butler, 12, won again, and Clive Jones took the only leg for the Red Lion. With all the plaudits last week going to youngster Rhys, it was overlooked that his father Mitch, threw a 14-dart leg for the Green Dragon A.

It was another 6-1 scoreline as the Green Dragon B beat Castle Caereinion with the in-form Dan Hosiene hitting a 180. Mark Smith took the only Castle leg.

The Oak hosted the Punchbowl and took a 3-2 lead into the doubles, which they lost. Garry Lewis (Punchbowl) threw a 171 as the final score went 4-3 in his team’s favour.

In the final game of the night, the Grapes B lost to visitors Kings Head, 4-3. The Kings Head took a 3-2 singles and then the doubles were split.

The re-arranged game between the Green Dragon A and the Horse and Jockey will be played on Wednesday, with only 4 points separating them, it should be a game to watch.

Next week throws up an entertaining match featuring last year’s champions against this year’s leaders when The Kings Head host the Horse & Jockey.
